A transformer according to wikipedia is a device that transfers energy from one electrical circuit to another by magnetic coupling without requiring relative motion between its parts.



A transformer comprises two or more coupled windings, and, in most cases, a magnetic core to concentrate magnetic flux. A voltage applied to one winding creates a time-varying magnetic flux in the core, which induces a voltage in the other windings. Varying the relative number of turns determines the voltage ratio between the windings, thus transforming the voltage from one circuit to another.

But, a Transformer in Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg minds are the battles between the Protectors (Autobot) and the Destroyers (Decepticon). Transformers will have it’s world premier in July 4th, 2007.

Based on the name of a line of toys designed and produced by toy companies Takara and Hasbro from 1984 onward.

According to them a Transformer is a sentient machine that is able to "transform", reconfiguring itself into a common and innocuous form, such as a car, aircraft, or animal. The taglines "More Than Meets the Eye" and "Robots in Disguise" reflect this ability.

The Autobot gang was lead by the 18-wheels robot name Optimus Prime, Optimus or Prime for short, is a fictional commander of the heroic Autobots, a faction of heroic robots from the planet Cybertron who wage their battles to destroy the evil forces of the Decepticons, for control of their homeworld, and later, peace in the whole universe.

Transformers the Movie directed by Michael Bay. Stories written by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman who also does the Screenplay, and John Rogers. This 144 min movie was Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of sci-fi action violence, brief sexual humor, and language.



Synopsis:

Our world will be transformed on July 4 when aliens make Earth their final battleground in ’Transformers’ As the forces of evil seek the key to ultimate power, our last chance for survival rests in the hands of young Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf).

The movie starts a long time ago, far away on the planet of Cybertron, a war was being waged between the noble Autobots (led by the wise Optimus Prime) and the devious Decepticons (commanded by the dreaded Megatron) for control over the Allspark, a mystical talisman that would grant unlimited power to whoever possessed it.

The Autobots managed to smuggle the Allspark off the planet, but Megatron blasted off in search of it. He eventually tracked it to the planet of Earth (circa 1850), but his reckless desire for power sent him right into the Arctic Ocean, and the sheer cold forced him into a paralyzed state.

His body was later found by Captain Archibald Witwicky, and before going into a comatose state Megatron used the last of his energy to engrave a map, showing the location of the Allspark, into the Captain’s glasses, and send a transmission to Cybertron.

He is then carted away by the Captain’s ship.

A century later, Sam Witwicky, nicknamed Spike by his friends, buys his first car. To his shock, he discovers it to be Bumblebee, an Autobot in disguise who is to protect Spike, as he bears the Captain’s glasses and the map carved on them. But Bumblebee is not the only Transformer to have arrived on Earth - in the desert of Qatar, the Decepticons Blackout and Scorponok attack a U.S. military base, causing the Pentagon to send their special Sector Seven agents to capture all "specimens of this alien race".

Spike and his girlfriend Mikaela (Megan Fox) find themselves in the middle of a grand battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons, stretching from Hoover Dam all the way to Los Angeles.
