Transformers, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

The Good

One of the good part of this movie is definetely its amazing CG work from Industrial light & magic. Although I should say, the effect is still a little below the achievements of the Lord of the Rings series, but in general Transformers special effects deserve a B+.

Other good credits goes to Shia Labeouf. He looks natural and enjoying act his role as Sam Witwicky. He’s well known for playing Louis Stevens in the popular Disney Channel series "Even Stevens" (2000) and has won a Daytime Emmy for his performance. In 2006 he was considered for the role of Jimmy Olsen in Superman Returns.

Right now, Shia is involved in a production for the new Indiana Jones movie.

The Bad

For the bad part, I should agree to other critics about the duration of the film. Some Transformers scenes IMO should have been cut-out in the editing room, for example, the attacking to the US troops in the US military base in Qatar seems a bit too long. The cut-to-cut scenes from the military base and Pentagon was too often and boring.

Megatron The new designs for most of the robots are too overdone. Details are good, but too many details of the robot make it hard to the eyes to enjoy the physical appearance of them, especially the new look of Megatron. Michael Bay probably wants to make this most powerful leader of Decepticon robots as evil as it can, but the cartoon version of Megatron looks more powerful than the new one.

Also, if my eyes and my brain can connected it right, there’s a scene of Megatron’s arrival to the battlefield as a jet fighter, but when he transforms into his robot look, but no physical appearance of a jet fighter left on any part of his body, compares to how Starscreams looks like.

From all of the Transformers robots appearance, I like the shape of BumbleBee and Jazz, these autobots seems to match perfectly from their vehicle’s shape and robots mode.

The Ugly

Hide-and-Seek If Michael Bay wants to add some humorous scenes to the movie, I can take it and feels right, it’s necessary and fit to the characters. But the most Ugly scenes from the movie is when Optimus Prime hanged himself to the bottom of a bridge. Come on Mike, you can’t think anything else beside making the most powerful Autobots act like some kind of a Kung Fu master?

The scenes when the outobots make a visit to Sam’s house is also ridiculous, useless and time wasting of CG works. It doesn’t make sense at all why they have to play a hide and seek?

special anniversary edition

Out of them all, I enjoy this movie, although not a lot, but it’s okay. I hope in Transformers 2 movie, whoever will going to directed it will take more carefully to the Bad and the Ugly of the first ’Transformers’.

Meanwhile, this movie has emerged as the highest grosser reaping US$155.8 Million for its initial 6 day run in US only and surpassed the previously record of US$151.6 Million held by SpiderMan in its launch week in 2002.

Transformers is still to come to Mexico, Brazil and South Africa (July 20), France and Belgium (July 25), the United Kingdom (July 27), Germany (August 2), and Japan (August 4).
